I first used a pin for a divine, fluffy "can-can" skirt (which is a pattern found here) to make my daughter a birthday skirt. I chose yellow chiffon and just plain yellow fabric.
The pattern is SUPER helpful, but being a novice sewer, I did have a few bumps, i.e. my seams weren't perfect, you could see my thread pretty well through my chiffon, my chiffon wasn't perfectly puffy, but overall it looked good. Those things get better with experience.
After having one skirt under my belt, I decided I would make another for my daughter's Halloween costume in red. Along with that, I found a free tutorial for making a pirate vest (by the same lady! She has a really great website) on Pinterest.
The vest was SUPER easy. A beginner could definitely pull it off. It's even easier if you already have bias tape made or can buy bias tape. I made mine, which really didn't take long (yep, she's got a tutorial on how to do this too.).
The skirt went a lot faster this time and looked 20 times better than the first one in my opinion. Then I just added some black leggings, skull socks, a headband and a white shirt.
Viola, an adorable pirate!
Happy Sewing,
Amy
This is too cute, Amy! I need to learn how to put the links in my posts! :)
